A VERY ENJOYABLE TOUR TO WEST EUROPE

The eighteen countries of Western Europe as defined by the National Geographic Society are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom with about a population of four hundred and ten millions of people.

Now I'm going to give a presentation of our 13-day very enjoyable tour to West Europe from 12th to 24th of August, 2011.

Hello!

Every-one,

What a cheerful tour! Although we started our journey with a 13-hour-fly to London by British Airway and then transited to Rome for another two hours, we had a lovely memory. The food was good. We took some red wine and white wine with couples of unexpected admirable dishes. They were the ‘turkey noodle’ with red carrot, chicken, pepper slides; beef with potatos, curry, desserts, coca-cola, various kinds of soft drink, red tea, and coffee.

On the day 2, the initial stop was Rome (Italy). We visited Vatican. Inside it, there is the St. Peter Basilica which was built for one hundred and fifty years to complete it. Vatican is an ecclesiastical state, ruled by the Bishop of Rome – the Pope. St. Peter's Square is marvelous. I couldn't forget the Saint Peter's Basilica. Saint Peter's Basilica has the largest interior of any Christian church in the world. Saint Peter's is regarded as one of the holiest Catholic sites. With the blue clear sky and no clouds at all, we took many pretty photos.

Second, we reached Rome Rorum, Colosseum-Arco Di Costantino, then Trevi Fountien. Trevin Fountien is a fountain with various huge monuments. The marble statues are lifelike. I like them. The tour guide said by dropping a EUR- coin into the fountain with a dearest wish in your heart, your hope would come true! Residence : Hotel Best Western Park.

On the day 3, the first stop was Florence and Michelangelo Square in Rome. The scenery is very beautiful with houses of red roofs and elegant building techniques. In the centre of the Square, there is a big church. I'd seen it in television before. I love the whole square. There is a marble status of ‘Perfect man – David’ standing above the square on the platform. ‘He' is very handsome. We also took a lot of beautiful photos. Next, we went to the Pisa Leaning Tower on the same day. The height of the tower is 55.86 m (183.27 ft) from the ground on the low side and 56.70 m (186.02 ft) on the high side. How interesting! Residence : Hotel Crown Plaza Padova.

Day 4 was a great day. We arrived at Venice, San Marco Plaza with palaces and churches. We took a strange cuisine/spaghetti of black ink of cuttlefish in a Venice restaurant. I didn't like it at all. Residence : Hotel Innstruck.

Day 5 - we visited Innstruck of Austria. Innstruck is one of the biggest cities of Austria. We also visited Vandz or its another name as‘The little stamp kingdom’. The citizens there are very rich and the tax rate is the lowest in the world. We then visited the Swarovski Crystal World in Switzerland. There are many kinds of crystals including the biggest and the smallest crystals in the world. Residence : Hotel Grand Europe.

On day 6 we went to Luzern
(琉森), Chapel Bridge (琉森湖), Engelberg and some places. Then we were on rotair cable cars to reach the Mt. Titlis of Switzerland. We reached the top of 10,000 feet height. We took many pretty photos. The scenery is much more beautiful than the Ngong Ping 360 in Hong Kong. We had some visits to Watch Shops, towers and churches. Residence : Hotel Novotel Beaune.

Day 7 we went to Paris. We reached our dream peak of Eiffel Tower. It is magnificent. However, we did not like the streets nearby as they were shabby. The Eiffel Tower is especially attractive at nights. It is in golden colour. We then went to Painter Village where the Sacred Heart Cathedral's situated. Residence : Hotel Holiday Inn.

On day 8 we visited Napoleon tomb, Arc De Troumphe
(凱旋門), Musée du Louvre (羅浮宮), and then went shopping in Holland. In 1806, Napoleon I conceived of a triumphal arch patterned after those of ancient Rome and dedicated to the glory of his imperial armies. The monument stands 50 metres (164 ft) in height, 45 m (148 ft) wide and 22 m (72 ft) deep. Afterwards, we went site-seeing on Seine 塞纳河 in a canal cruise. The Seine is a major river and commercial waterway in France. It is 776 km (486 miles) long. There are many good-looking buildings alongside the river. As a result, we intended to take many photos. Because of lack of battery for our cameras, we only took a few of them. Residence : Hotel Holiday Inn.

On day 9, we were free for leisure of shopping in Paris and Belgium. I bought some 'Godiva' chocolates in Belgium. Brussels is the capital of Belgium and hosts the headquarters of the
European Union (EU). It's also the largest urban area in Belgium. We wandered around the Grand Place in Brussels. We took some pretty photos and videos, too. Residence : Hotel Holiday Inn.

On day 10, we visited some urban areas in Brussels. Then we went to Amsterdam in Holland. Amsterdam is the capital of Netherlands. It's also the largest city, the financial and cultural capital of the Netherlands. We visited a small fishing village where was very beautiful. We took some unforgettable photos. Residence : Hotel Schiphol in Brussels.

Day 11 -We visited the Dam Square, Red District, Schans-Windmill in Amsterdam. Mention had to be made of the Clog Factory and the Cheese Factory of Schans-Windmill. I bought some smoke-cheese which was very delicious. We had the chance to see the making of a clog within 5-minute-time by a machine! Residence: Hotel Holiday Inn.

Day 12 – we flied to London on plane from Amsterdam. We visited Tower Bridge - Backingham Palace - St. Paul Cathedral – Big Ben – Parliament House. We finally visited the Diamond House nearby the large grassland. After all, the British Musuem is very crowded. The tourists, guides, residents are very interested in the ancient monuments and mummy. I took some photos, too. I was happy to note that a Chinese guide was arranged to explain the exhibits. We then had a great lunch of ‘dim-sums’ in the China Street in London namely ‘The No. One Restaurant’

Day 13 – we're on the plane from London to Hong Kong. The 'air-meals’were very tasty. We arrived at Hong Kong at HK time 3:30pm.

Somethings to be reminded, the prices of goods were very expensive in Europe. For example : EUR1 is just for a banana, EUR 4 for three buns, EUR 7.8 for an hamburger in Macdonald, EUR 24 for a box of ten small pieces of chocolate with paintings whereon the cover of a tin box; half pound or EUR0.7 or EUR 0.3 for a visit to washroom, EUR 7.5 for a small box of 3" x 3"vegetables only of carrot, cabbage, pepper, eggplant….etc. On the whole, the dishes arranged by the Travel Co. were okay. I like the French snails and the nice vegetable dishes very much.

In view of the above happy events, our expectations were all fulfilled.
Thank you.

What a wonderful tour! I and my husband enjoyed our tour to West Europe very much.

MORE LOVE, LOVE MORE

Title : More love, love more.

Dear all,

I was a Form 5B student of Confucian Tai Shing Secondary School in 1971. Now I'm going to give a presentation on the above subject of ‘more love, love more’.

My previous Form 5 classmates and I would like to make it a special occasion this year which happens to be the 40th anniversary after graduation from Confucian Tai Shing Secondary School in 1971. How many ‘40 years’ can we have in our lives? I think you're sure of the answer. We'll arrange several activities to celebrate this valuable friendship. Well, let us start from the very beginning.

There is more love, there'll be more happiness. How will you be feeling love in your heart? Beauty helps to connect us to love. At any moment, try to find the old memories of five beautiful things. No matter where you are, they'll be there. Maybe, it's the words and pictures that appear in the commemorative book of ‘Sunrise Society 昇社 of Confucian Tai Shing Secondary School 1971', or the way the light which fell on the pathway of the doors of the classrooms 5A and 5B. Maybe, it's the words in The Confucian Analects that you didn't notice after your Form 5 graduation in 1971, or the smell of the dense bushes in Morse Park, Wong Tai Sin, that you wandered about many times in 1971. Maybe it's the steam rising from the hot bowl of ham macaronis that you purchased in those old days from a small 'cha chan teng' nearby in Tai Shing Street, or your favourite teachers' voices in the school terms of 1971 in Tai Shing School.

Love more, you'll see your friends' faces light up, then you'll feel more love flowing through you. It's wonderful to try to give compliments to your 1971 classmates such as ‘you did a great job.” Or utter pleasantly other inspiring words such as ‘You have an incredible ability to make everyone feel at ease and welcomed.” By the way, there'll be a trip, a re-visit of Tai Shing School building and a celebration dinner spreading over three days' time. They're being planned in the meeting by the five members in the CRC Club, Tin Hau, in the evening of 12.5.2011.

To encourage more participation of 1971 classmates in this special event, we are glad to propose a theme of the 40th graduation anniversary as “Tai Shing 1971 welcome you : More love.love more" or in Chinese “大成1971歡迎你:愛. Every encouragement from you will be received gratefully. Your every presence will be welcome.

I appreciate the opportunity to write this passage. I derive from it much pleasure. I'm certain that this'll be added up to my wonderful and lovely memories. Enthusiasm is a great force. One's soul will expand if one devotes oneself to a noble cause. So it's wise to do the right thing. Don't miss this golden opportunity to see your old friends and classmates! Join hands with your 1971 classmates to make this year's anniversary a special success and joyfulness.

If you have questions, please call :
Mr. Adrian Hung, Ms Cannie Tong, Ms Clara Ho, Ms Mary Lau.

Look forward to meet you soon. Thank you.

Mother's day and Father's day

teppanyaki

What a beautiful Sunday! We took our lunch in a ‘teppanyaki’ cuisine in Citygate food court. I enjoyed to watch the chefs’ cooking the ingredients in front of us. They stacked onion slices to produce a flaming onion volcano made me laugh. The food was fresh. They were shrimp, beef, stewed mutton with sprout, lettuce. They placed them on three pieces of aluminum sheets. Oh! How interesting! Next time, let us order fried beef ribs. They were ordered by the customers sitting beside us.

A pleasant picnic to Lantau Island

Now, I am going to give a presentation of the pleasant picnic today.

Thank you for your kind invitation to accompany me to have a pleasant picnic. I really enjoyed very much today. Well, let me write down some notes of it.

An unbelievable queue of about one thousand persons'd appeared in Ngong Ping Bus Station that we hesitated for a moment. Then we got on '3M' bus to go to Silver Mine Bay instead.

It had so many fine sceneries that I nearly forgot during these several years! Mui Wo had changed a lot. I even couldn't find out where the barbecue sites located. Wandering along the winding passages in the countryside, I noticed some old shops of long time ago. With their familiar outlines I felt the traces of the past.

Then we spent the latter part of the afternoon in Tai O. The beautiful views were the same as I mentioned before. I loved Tai O for its sweet atmosphere.

We left Tai O after taking supper in 'Lin Hang cuisine'. The food was tasty. We had a feast of chicken, fish, egg and vegetables. I liked the hot tea. When we arrived at the bus stop, a long queue of about one thousand persons was existed, too. What an unforgettable journey in this Easter Holidays, I think. Luckily, there were many 'No. 11 Lantau Buses'. We only waited for twenty minutes till we're on board the bus. We left Tai O at about seven o'clock light-heartedly and joyfully.

Thank you.

A visit to Grand Century Place in Mongkok on 16.4.2011

It was nearly four thirty when I reached the Grand Century Place. It was very crowded full of people in the mall. I visited several shops. I was especially interested in wandering around the corridors where I might stop to see the sceneries of the commercial centre. It was then I met my two relatives who were cheerful and lovely.

Then we went to see a film called ‘Rango’ which is quite interesting.
The story is :- The movie ‘Rango’ is based on the novel ‘Pirates of the Caribben’. It’s an inventive comedy. ‘Johnny Depp’ is an primitive energetic comedy that brings the moviegoers for a happy and heartfelt adventure in the Wild West. The main character is Rango (John Depp). It’s once been an sheltered chameleon living as an ordinary family pet , while facing a major identity. After all, how high can you aim when your whole purpose in life is to blind in when Rango accidentally winds up in the gritty, gun-slinging town of Dirt? How can you handle as the town is populated by the desert’s most wily and whimsical creatures? However, the less-than-courageous lizard suddenly finds he stands out as the last hope the town has been waiting. The new Sheriff Rango is forced to play his new role to the hilt. Meanwhile, Rango starts to become the hero he once only pretended to be. With the amazing cast of Johnny Depp, Isla Fisther, Abigail Breslin, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy, Hary Dean Standton, Ray Winstone and Timothey Olyphant as the Spirit of the West, Rango is an exciting new twist on the classic Western legend of the outsider who saves a town finally.

Afterwards, we had dinner at the Superstar Seafood Restaurant. We had an admirable menu of oysters, steamed scallops with garlic, fin soup and the dish of stir-fried bitter gourds with beef. The food was delicious and we enjoyed very much.

Then we said goodbye to each other and I went home after some visit to the crowded streets in Mongkok.

Do you like to raise a pet, why, why not ?

tropical fish

cute tortoises

gracefully swimming goldfish

I like to raise a pet on the grounds listed below.

First, I am convinced by many stories which describe the pets' obedience, usefulness and merit that a pet is an honest friend.

Second, a pet can also bring lots of fun into my daily life. I had once kept a little cute tortoise many years ago. I enjoyed watching it crawling extremely slowly on the floor. It was amusing!

Third, some pets are beautiful, intelligent and playful such as goldfish, dogs and pot-bellied pigs. The colourful tropical fish swim gracefully in the aquariums while dogs learn tricks more quickly than most other ones. The amazing appearance of pot-bellied pigs provokes us into laughters wildly.

Meanwhile, I had once asked for an advice from an exotic pet expert. He says that pets are lovely animals and, although you may need time and effort to take care of them, the reward is plentiful. It is generally spoken that raising a pet is a kind of luxury, however, in view of the above reasons, I think it is worthy to do so.

Ramble among the mountainous landscape

I 'm now going to give a presentation on the mountainous ramble.

Having first considered hesitantly which place I would mostly like to visit during the month of October, I stared at the beautiful photos in the computer. Which tourist spot?

It was a cool October afternoon last year. The white clouds were flying in the sky. The temperature was between twenty-four and twenty-five degrees centigrade. Weather : fine. We crossed the Sun Kay Bridge, which linked the Sun Kay Road towards the Lung Yan Temple. On the way we saw big mountains with bare rocks in spurs. Some tall trees were roaring in the wind. We saw many flowers and plants such as bottle gourd, snake gourd, towel gourd (絲瓜), yellow chrysanthemum, dark green bamboo groves.... They were as fresh as the vegetables in the markets. Some of the gourds were curly planted on flower stands in front of the little gardens of the 'pan uks'. Breeze blown by caused the leaves leaning right and left. In the open tracts along the hillside, where sweet mountain grass grew thick and strong. The greenery scenery was attractive.

We also saw a tiny jade lizard with a long tail in the small foliages. We caught sight of it accidentally. It hopped here and there quickly. A colourful butterfly was flying gracefully among the small bushes.

I saw that the sun was sinking in the west, it shone with a reflected light upon the rocks and the dark-leaved pine made the spot more attractive than ever. Darkness soon drew the curtains of night around us and I left Tai O reluctantly in that evening.

Thank you.
Mary.

My participation in charity work

The Potala Palace, Tibet

Hi,

I am going to give a presentation on my participation in charity work.

I am very interested in voluntary work of a charity.

I am a volunteer in World Vision. I choose this charity because I think the task is very meaningful. I assist my best friend who is also a volunteer in this charity covering the jobs of sending messages to the other members to inform them having meetings and then raising the destinations to start journeys to the poor villages in Mainland China by giving the villagers food, money and other daily materials. The activity is carried out half-yearly.

Although I am already over fifty-seven years of age, in the midst of the fourth range of the population of Hong Kong, which is between fifty to eighty years old, I consider I am proud to be one of these prosperous human resources to contribute my effort to the society.

World Vision is an international Christian relief and development organization. It aims to help children and families, provides emergency aid and tries to increase public awareness of poverty around the world. World Vision now helps over 100 million needy and poor people in 100 different countries around the world. One of the ways to help them is by child sponsorship. Of every contributor giving two hundred Hong Kong dollars monthly, one of these children is being released from poverty, having the chance of going to school to be educated.

I appreciate the opportunity of being a volunteer in this non-profitmaking organization. I enjoy it. I think I am being one of the luckiest persons in Hong Kong since I am supported by my parents, my brothers and sisters, my husband, my sons, my relatives, doctors and nurses, teachers, schoolmates as well as colleagues… etc. On the contrary, my meagre effort of showing my awareness to society is just like one of the tiniest pebbles on the huge beach.

Thank you.

Visit to Macau

Dear,

What a wonderful visit to Macau in these two days of Easter holidays!

We got on a turbojet at about eleven o'clock in the 2.4.10 morning and reached Macau at exactly twelve o'clock! The first thing we did on our arrival was to go to a hotel. It was called Hotel Golden Dragon. Before we left home we had made arrangements so that everything was now ready for us. After getting comfortably settled we went sightseeing. We found that Macau had about a million inhabitants. The climate was rather cool and sometimes a little damp, but we were very glad to be in such a fairly cold weather.

We had lunch in a Chinese restaurant nearby. The food was delicious. I like the stir-fryed rice most. Then we went by taxi to the Science Museum, afterwards, to Koon Ya Street, Taipa, where was very crowdy. On the way in the taxi, we saw Statue of Kun lam, Lotus Monument, Macau Fisherman's Wharf, Friendship Bridge. There were many casinos in Macau. They were all famous tourist spots. I bought souvinors for my friends and myself. After walking for an hour, I felt tired and my right leg ached. Notwithstanding what'd happened to my pain, I hurried back to the hotel for a rest. At about eight o'clock we took supper in Tatuda Japanese Restaurant in the hotel. The service was of low class but the food was quite okay, not counting the melted ice-cream.

In the next morning, we went to 'Sun Ma Road' and then we had a delightfull lunch in the rotation restaurant of the Macau Tower. The food was very tasty. I like them very much and I ate a lot. Wow! I'll certainly go there next time.

We returned to Hong Kong at about five o'clock. We only spent two hours on transporation from Macau to Hong Kong. Very fast.

On the whole, I appreciated the hotel which we lived. However, next time if we go to Macau, we'll join the Kwan Kin Tour to Macau as agreed because the price is cheaper and the schedule of visit'll be much easier yet more convenient. However, a trip planned by ourselves is also desirable.

Attached are some beautiful photos we had taken in the trip.

Thank you. Happy Easter!

Keep smiling, keep shining,

Mary

AN old man went on a trip to Italy with his wife to celebrate his seventieth birthday. They came to a coffee shop and ordered two cups of coffee. The old man told the young waiter, "This shop is as old as I am. I used to come here every time I visited Italy when I was young. The coffee was just terrific and I've always been longing to come back."

Later, the coffee came and the old couple could not wait to have a taste of it with excitement. Having taken a little sip, they put down their cups immediately and looked at each other in disappointment. The old man asked for the waiter and made a bitter complaint, "The coffee is so different. It doesn't smell or taste like coffee. It's more like water."

The waiter explained with patience, "This coffee shop is already seventy years old, just as you are. So it is natural that the coffee is becoming weaker and weaker. You should know perfectly well about that!"

Note : Drinks that are weak are made with a lot of water and therefore do not have a strong taste.

'out' in joy

Happiness,

I always feel young because I have confidence in my thesis, moral, merit, morale, ethics, value of life, aim, dream that I created and followed in my young time. I'll continue in these excellent rules till I'm 'out'. 'Out' means the end of the life. Where-upon, I'm happy.

In view of the above faith, I'm confident that I'll be a fit person for the rest of my life.

'Out', then come into the another route of 'entrance',

God is my best friend,

An interesting date

Amy and David had a date last week. They were good classmates. One Monday afternoon, David asked, “Amy, do you like to go with me to the cinema on Saturday?” She replied she was pleased to come. David liked Amy for she was a quiet, beautiful, gentle and cheerful girl with long straight hair.

Amy was so happy, excited and nervous that she wanted to have a complete change in her appearance in order to impress David. Hence, she had a hair cut and went shopping at Fashion House and Lee’s Hair Salon respectively the following day after school. She bought many items and some clothes.

Time did fly. Very soon the Saturday date arrived. When Amy was leaving the house, her mother reminded her, “Have a good time and not to be too late home.” Amy responded, “OK, Mum.” Wow! What a different look of Amy! Her hair was short with a pointed punk style. She dyed her hair in lovely purple and brown colours. She put on a lot of make-up by means of pink cheeks. She wore a low-cut light-blue T-shirt with orange-striped sleeves. In addition, she wore two sparkling ear-wings. Moreover, she put on a pair of tight floral jeans and white high-heeled long boots! A colourful bracelet was worn in her hand. She also carried a small red hand-bag.

When David saw Amy in the cinema, he was surprised and felt gloomily. He did not like her costumes. Finally, he suggested that he would leave her alone. She was sad and regretted of her outfit. Amy alertly proposed to run home immediately to have her appearance restoring to her previous look. David agreed. After two hours, they met again in the cinema and had a good time that night.

Below is one of the hot questions arisen in Public Examinations F.5 to F.7 in Hong Kong recently!!

I’m going to give a presentation on the following subject.

Drug addiction in Hong Kong- is it dangerous and how it affects the young people in Hong Kong? How can the society help them?

Terrifying topic : the drug addiction in Hong Kong is dangerous. It affects the youngsters in Hong Kong in a disaster way. Many innocent boys and girls take drugs. There're much help from the society to lend a hand, however, some young people do not cherish them. Shocking, isn't it?

Triad societies and criminal syndicate are soaking into the primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong nowadays. Of course, there are other places being damaged by these illicit societies in Hong Kong. They take the advantages of the youngsters' curiosity, vanity, self-destruction, depression to bring them to the lure. Although the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has launched various kinds of effective measure to draw away the bad elements, the result is not desirable. A great pity, isn't it?

The HKPF and HA have shouldered the problem hand-in-hand. The Hong Kong Police Force cracks down on crime. The Hospital Authority launches campaigns to remind the youngsters to keep aloof from the drug. There are a lot of advertising programmed against drug addiction shown on TV, radio, internet, clubs, schools, colleges, universities ….etc. Concerned posters are also held everywhere in public areas. The HKPF give talks in commercial centers, plazas, parks. Their slogan is that the narcotics are harmful to our health which may lead to death. Some slogans are really smart and active, such as
'Taking drugs? Eating dirt!’
'Stand hard! Say no to drug, refuse drug’
'Stand firm! Knock Drugs Out.’
'Say No to nightmare!’
'Not Now Not Ever.’
'Please call 186186 for help.’
Ultimately, some of those taking drugs may go to Hei Ling Chau Addiction Treatment Centre for cure.

The Education Bureau educates youngsters in some ways of telling them about the danger the drug will bring to them. There are medical checks for students coming to schools, too. The narcotic drug, which is a destructive medicine, may affect their brains and urge them to do things unintentionally and wrongly which, sometimes, are risky to their lives. Once the youngsters take drug, their career is stopped up. They're without dignity. They’ll capture every possible means to gain the drug. Upon their becoming to a poorer and poorer situation; finally without any money, they'll trapped themselves into the burrows of theft, liar, robbery, committed suicide and other negative circumstances.

Last but not the least is that we must teach the youngsters to change their attitudes to life. Positive thinking, hope, dream, love are excellent, very beneficial, and important. It is revealed in the well known old saying by Sir Bertrand Russell, the twentieth century world-famous psychologist, that ‘The good life is one inspired by love and guided by knowledge’ has much truth of it.

What a worrying fact we must pay attention to!

Thank you.

Mary.

Happy Chinese New Year 2011

Happy Chinese New Year

Hi,

Since the Lunar New Year festival is drawing nearer and nearer, many housewives in Hong Kong are engaged in a bustle of frying activities. These activities are usually done on the 24th to 25th day of the twelve Moon. The Pearl River Delta Open Economic Zone is a prosperous portion in China. The Pearl Estuary are filled with the Eastern and Western Culture nowadays. Yet, many women there are still having long-established ideas on Chinese New Year. They follow the Chinese New Year traditions strictly on its cheerfulness and joyfulness thesis.

According to the customs, housewives at this time are preparing a variety of pastries to welcome the visitors. They may come to their houses during the New Year period. And, this kind of fried food are also received and sent among the friends and relatives.

The frying custom, which originates from the Kwangtung Province, is especially popular among the people of the Pearl River Estuary. Many girls still retain the traditional features of Chinese New Year food. They cook many kinds of them, for example, the chin-dui '煎堆' which mean the wonderful words of "Full of chin-dui, full of wealth in your home" in Chinese ' 煎堆碌碌,金銀滿屋'.

The fried slices of potatoes and sweet potatoes are welcomed for the New Year in the serving tea activity. Some of them are in a form of a coin which signifies 'money'. The round shape of chin-dui is taken to mean 'reunion of the family'.

The ingredients of these pastries are flour, sugar and lard which usually make the outer "crust". Sesame, lotus seeds, coconut, red beans are often used as stuffing.

During the seventies and eighties, many young girls at the age of 12 to 16 were taught these culinary arts. They were also praised for honour with their cooking skills among members of the family.

The beautiful appearance of the finished products attracts much attention. For example, an unblemished chin-dui would bring good luck to the whole family in the new year ahead, as they reckon.

Happy Lunar New Year!!!!!

My friend, Pat, has a problem and he doesn't know what to do. He wishes me to give him advice.

His family are moving to Shanghai because his mum has got a job there. His parents have said that he can either go with them or stay in Hong Kong with his aunt. What do I think he should do? (Pl. write as a e-mail.)

Dear Pat,

Hi, I know how you feel but frankly you shouldn't be too worried about it. Truly speaking, Shanghai and Hong Kong are big cities. If I were you, I would certainly have difficulties in deciding which place I would settle down in future. Well, let us discuss them in detail.

There are advantages and disadvantages for both of the options. Let us say the good points first. If you choose to stay in Hong Kong with your aunt, you will have more freedom. Your aunt looks after you, she will never tighten to control you. As a result, you will be more independent, try to make decision by yourself, take good care of yourself. In other words, your personal quality is improved. You will be more mature, smarter yet happier. Moreover, studying in Hong Kong is free. You know, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has launched a 12-year free education since 2007. It is noted that the qualifications obtained are accredited globally, that is, the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination and the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination. However, I think there are two disadvantages. If you stay in Hong Kong, you will miss your parents. You will feel lonely. Do you think so?

On the other hand, if you move to Shanghai with your family and your parents, you will move to a great city. China is rising in the world nowadays. You will encounter widener exposure on culture, code of practice and policy of China. There are more potential opportunities, better job and business chances ahead of you. In addition, you learn Putonghua. It increases your proficiency of career to communicate with business partners and colleagues. Your mum and dad will take care of you carefully. Although they will keep an eye on you, they have deep concern about you. If I were you, I would not reckon that I got less freedom. By the way, you will meet new friends, dropping in good network and social networking in China. Your career is bright full of opportunities. You know, China is a city of 'guan see' or better say 'relationship', and you will learn much from your friends. However, I think there are two disadvantages. The English standard in China is lower than Hong Kong. The international school's fee is very expensive, which is about ten thousand yuans per year. You may adjust your adaptation in Shanghai diffficultly. There is culture challenge setting in front of you such as a different city, school, teacher , as well as classmates.

In view of above reasons, there is one point you must clarify beforehand. If your parents could afford the high school fee, if I were you, I would choose to move to Shanghai. You may get good general knowledge and common sense. If you stay with your parents, you will feel more comfortable and reliable. I always know you're good and respect your parents very much. So much encouragement received from your mum and dad do surely enlighten your hope tremendously. They love you. In such circumstances you will be more successful and happier in the days and years to come.

Hoping the above suggestions will help you!

Regards,
Mary

Hong Kong is a small island

Now I'm going to give a presentation of the topic of ‘Hong Kong is a small island', hope you'll like it.

Hong Kong is a small island but its sceneries are beautiful. Every year many tourists from all parts of the world visit Hong Kong. Hong Kong is wonderful in the daytime, but it's more amazing at night.

When the evening lights are lit, the electric bulbs are bright on the roads. You will see a glittery dragon winding its way around the Peak. It looks like a great Christmas tree. The tall buildings are lonely men waiting quietly in the darkness on the Peak. In the sky the moon is sitting leisurely beyond the stars. It looks like a noble green who is served by her maids. The moon is a large sparkling diamond surrounded by plenty of little gleaming diamonds. Distance from the Peak, you can neither divide the peak nor the sky. It seems as if there were many diamonds in the far away area.

When you are crossing the Victoria Harbour in the Star ferry, you'll see lights from the shore reflect on the sea. The red, blue, green, purple diamonds are floating in the dark sea. Some ferries cross by leaving stretches of silver chains on it. You can't stop to think whether they are true or false as you are floating in the ferry from Tsimshatsui to the Central District at nights. At that time, you can't help admitting you are in a world of diamonds!

Thank you.
